PTE is an acronym for "Protect The
Edge" which means to protect the edge of tile, marble or other flooring materials subject to chipping at the
edge.
The most common use of PTE is to provide a transition from hard floor products to carpet flooring. In
many situations it is used as a decorative strip to provide a linear design between tiles. PTE is offered in several types
of material or finish - brass, zinc or plastic top and the base for heavy top strip is usually zinc coated steel.
There are three basic shapes of PTE: straight, L-angle and T-angle. The two piece sections
are usually referred to as H.T. (heavy top) and are offered in a face (top) dimension of 1/8", 3/16", 1/4",
3/8" and 1/2". The three basic shapes are offered in a wide range of vertical dimensions which begin at
1/8". All are available in six foot lengths.
